How Does Acupuncture Feel?

I owe my new life to Monica. I went to see her about a year ago to help with anxiety and stress. She changed my life. I no longer take pills that make me feel like a zombie or eat away at my stomach.

Monica is extremely knowledgeable, and I notice results each time I see her. I was very interested in understanding more about Chinese Medicine and acupuncture and the points that she was focusing on for me. She recommended books and websites, and has taught me so much during each treatment. Monica also recommends herbs to help my treatment as well as teas and certain foods. She is truly all about understanding and treating your entire self - not just one issue.

The treatment rooms are so calming and always filled with soft meditating music. Its easy to relax, even when you have needles all over your body. I welcome my appointments every week, as I always feel so renewed and refreshed each time.

As a tennis player and tennis teaching professional my joint health is essential to my ability to stay employed! I went to a podiatrist who misdiagnosed a " foot injury " and wanted to perform surgery which included cutting out part of my sesamoid bone.

Luckily, I went to see an acupuncturist who evaluated me through a thorough physical exam and was able to tell that I had lost cartilage in my joint, which caused a bone collision - which lead to inflammation. After my first treatment I was feeling 80% better.

After my 3rd appointment I was 100%. The acupuncturist explained that my healing process involves better circulation and a natural anti-inflammatory diet along with his deep tissue massage of the foot and the surrounding area from the knee to the calf which would all play a part in better health and functionality of my joints. I recommend acupuncture to all of my students, colleagues in the tennis profession and family members.

My good friend recommended Monica to treat my increased PMS symptoms-- extreme irritability, emotional swings, etc. Since my physician frustratingly advised more hormones to treat my hormonal fluctuations, I decided to meet with Monica to learn more about acupuncture. At my first appointment, Monica patiently and kindly listened to all of my questions and hesitations, including the often-asked: Will it hurt? It didn’t -- and I’ve continued to seek treatment from Monica for months now, with a personalized schedule based on my cycles. My PMS mood swings have stabilized and have greatly reduced, barely registering each month since I’ve begun treatment. Additionally, Monica has been treating my torn ACL as well, and I’m now able to run and participate in activities that were unthinkable prior to my acupuncture treatments. When I first met Monica, I was new to acupuncture, but desperate for help with chronic migraines. I received treatment weekly for several months, and was very pleased, both with the outcome (dramatic reduction in frequency) and Monica’s approach as a whole. Monica’s bedside manner is wonderful, she is calm and kind, takes time to ask questions, and will adapt her plan for treatment to incorporate additional ailments (ie adding an additional site for stress or congestion). Much to my surprise, I often fell asleep during the treatment and enjoyed a deep relaxation. 

As I was preparing for the birth of my daughter, my doula suggested acupuncture as a way to prep the body for labor. Excited by this prospect, and encouraged that acupuncture is one of the only treatments that has been researched and shown effective, I again sought Monica’s help. I found the sessions relaxing and Monica graciously offered additional support and resources for pregnancy, the post-partum period, and breastfeeding. The plan was to start gentle labor preparations at 36 weeks, and move to more active preparation/induction if it became necessary. This round of acupuncture was a quick one, as I only made it to 2 visits before labor began all on its own... a healthy 2 weeks early :)  I’ve been quite pleased with the care and treatment I have received from Monica over the years. I have highly recommended her to friends and clients, and will continue to return to Monica myself as need.

My doctor told me that I had an elevated FSH level & that if it were any higher I wouldn’t be eligible for IVF. Because it was so high I had a lower chance of conceiving than other women in my age group.

This is when I decided to turn to acupuncture. I read a review about Monica from a lady who swore she was the reason her IVF worked and decided to give her a try.

When I explained everything to Monica, she said that there were definitely things she could help. During my next cycle my fertility signs returned & I know that was because of the acupuncture. Then an ultrasound revealed a dermoid cyst on my ovary that needed to be removed before we could proceed with IVF. I continued to see Monica and get healthier while awaiting the surgery. My husband also went to her to increase and improve his sperm count and motility.

I had the cyst removed and we were able to finally do our first and only IVF cycle. Monica was so accommodating during this time. She made sure she was available for us any time of the day while we were going through our procedure. She was there to give me a treatment before & after my embryo transfer which she had to come in on the weekend for.

We were very successful with our procedure, even with my elevated FSH level. A week and a half after the transfer we found out we were pregnant and a few weeks after that we found out we were having twins.

I really feel like if I were not seeing Monica during this time that I would not have become pregnant. She was understanding and very involved and interested in my overall health. I carried my twins to full term, even with my bicornuate uterus.

I went to Monica upon the recommendation of a member of my womens' choir. She and I had both struggled with sinus and bronchial conditions which often kept us from participation in our group. Monica's acupuncture treatments and Chinese herbs have aided me immensely in thwarting the upper respiratory infections which have plagued me my entire life. I now may rely upon being able to sing in my choir performances regularly.

I started seeing Monica after a coworker recommended her after success she had seen during her pregnancy. I was experiencing very bad sciatica and lower back pain related to my pregnancy. I could barely walk, so was looking for any relief possible to get me through the final weeks of my pregnancy. Monica was a great listener and answered all of my questions and concerns as I had never received acupuncture before. I started to feel a little relief after my first appointment so decided to continue. After my third treatment I began to feel considerable relief and felt this was the most beneficial of all the specialists I had been seeing. I continued to see Monica through the rest of my pregnancy until the day after my due date. My son was born almost exactly 24 hrs after my last visit to Monica. Even though this was my second child, and it is expected to be a shorter delivery, I really think that all the treatments from Monica leading up to delivery made labor that much quicker and more manageable.

Last winter I totally obliterated my knee in a skiing accident. With a torn ACL and badly stretched medial collateral ligament, I couldn't put weight on it. I didn't have proper medical insurance to make surgery an option and I wanted to try a less invasive method to my healing. A friend suggested that I call Monica for an acupuncture treatment. After the first visit I could tell it had helped. After three visits I felt an enormous improvement in the pain relief and mobility. I recommend it!
