Monica Legatt obtained her Washington State acupuncture license in 1997 after graduating from The Northwest Institute of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, now part of Bastyr University. As an undergraduate Monica graduated with honors from The University of Puget Sound where she studied East Asian philosophy and culture and was first exposed to Taoism, the foundation of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Monica also obtained a Masters degree in Teaching Arts and her certification in elementary education grades K-8 and high school English grades 9-12 from the University of Puget Sound. As an educator Monica enjoys explaining the Chinese Medicine diagnosis and treatment plan to each of her patients in clear and understandable terms.
Monica has been board certified by the National Commission for the Certification of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine since obtaining her license to practice in 1997. Practitioners such as Monica who keep their NCCAOM diplomate standing current demonstrate an exceptional commitment to professional development and continual refinement of their clinical skills by voluntarily completing 15 hours of continuing education every year. Washington State requires no continuing education for maintaining an acupuncture license: only current NCCAOM diplomats voluntarily hold themselves to this high standard.
Monica has specialized training in the areas fertility, obstetrics and gynecology, emotional and psychological conditions, neuro-musculo-skeletal injuries and neurological conditions. She has worked successfully with thousands of patients since beginning practice, giving her extensive clinical experience. Some of her esteemed Chinese Medicine teachers include Giovanni Maciocia (obstetrics/gynecology/fertility, emotional and psychological conditions), and Dr. Ming Qing Zhu, innovator of Zhu's scalp acupuncture system for neurological disorders, paralysis and pain. She has training in the treatment of infertility from The Jade Institute in Seattle and reproductive endocrinologists Dr. Michael Opsahl and Klaus Wiemer.
Monica is a previous president of the Acupuncture Association of Washington where she was the chair of the Health Insurance Committee. Her focus was advocating for the coverage of acupuncture by Washington state insurance companies. At this time Washington state insurance companies must cover acupuncture treatments for medically necessary diagnoses.
Monica's personal style of acupuncture is highly effective, as her patient testimonials repeatedly state. You will enjoy working with Monica because she explains everything comprehensively to each patient and her clinical outcomes are excellent.
